Frequently Asked Questions

Is Callista Z. Maris your real name?
No, it's not. It is the Internet Identity I picked for myself and use for everything. How I picked it is an interesting story. My first online nickname was Z'ha'dum, the name of the home planet of the Shadows from Babylon 5. Then I decided I wanted a full name to use on the internet. At the time I was reading Children of the Jedi by Barbara Hambly and there is a Jedi Knight in that book named Callista. I really liked the name so I picked that for my first name. For the last name, I took one of Mara Jade's aliases, Celina Marnis, and took the N out making it Maris. However, so many of my online friends knew me as Z'ha'dum I kept that nickname as my middle name. Thus, Callista Z. Maris.

So what IS your real name?
Not telling. Sorry, that's my secret. I have never liked my real name much, that's why I have so many nicknames. Some day I may legally change my name to Callista Maris or one of my other variations of it, but for now, I'm stuck with my birth name. I will tell you this much though, I have two middle names and all three names, first and both middle, are French. My last name is Italian and VERY difficult. All four of my names sound ugly, look ugly when written, and were a constant source of severe teasing in school. I have met maybe 4 people that have pronounced my French names correctly the first time but NO ONE EVER gets our last name right. You cannot imagine the humiliation. PARENTS: DON'T EVER GIVE YOUR KIDS DIFFICULT NAMES!! IT'S A SOCIAL DEATH SENTENCE!!!!

Can you translate something for me into Elvish?
Not really my strong suit. I'm still quite new to Elvish myself. If you just HAVE to have that Elvish tattoo or whatever you want it for, the best thing to do would be to learn it yourself or ask a real expert. Trouble is, a lot of the experts I know are sick and tired of people wanting a translation without even bothering to learn it themselves. After learning (or at least attempting to learn) Elvish, the experts WILL help you. My two favorite sites for everything Elvish are:
Ardalambion (Languages of Arda)
Gwaith-i-Phethdain (Fellowship of the Word-Smiths)
And the experts are here: Elfling Yahoo Group

Can you translate something for me into Japanese or send me the Japanese characters for something?
I'm a little better at Japanese, but still not an expert. I will answer these questions to the best of my ability, but before you get your skin involved, double (or even triple) check me. And since I don't have access to my Japanese graphics since my computer exploded, please don't ask for me to send you characters. I can't.

Anything else you want to ask that I can add to this list?
Yeah, I got a question.
