The Life Path Number
Your Life Path of birth date number describes your essential self and your basic direction, opportunities, and abilities. Determining your Life Path number is easy. Simply add together the numbers of the month, day, and year in which you were born.
For example, My oldest brother was born on July 2, 1971. To find his birth date number, begin with 2(for the second day). Then add 7 (because July is seventh month). Now you have a total of 9. Next, add the digits of the year. In this case, it would be 1 + 9 + 7 + 1 = 18. Now add 18 + 9 (the total of his birth month and date). The total is 27. Many numerologists express this formula this way:

In Numerology, double digits are usually "reduced" to a single digit between 1 and 9. To reduce the number 19, just add the two digits together. When 2 + 7 are added, the resulting number is 9. Nine is the Life Path (or birth date number) of my oldest brother.
The Master Numbers: 11 and 22
Most numerologists believe that the "Master numbers" 11 and 22 have extra-special symbolic significance. As a result, if your Life Path (or any other) number adds up to a total of 11 or 22, it is not further reduced. These are the only exceptions. All other numbers are reduced automatically.
Life Path 1
Determined, energetic, and independent, Ones are often known for their leadership ability. They tend to be innovative and creative, and they are often single-minded in the pursuit of a goal. Character Number
Your Character number, or personal name number, describes the essential you. Although it is sometimes referred to as the number of your destiny, must numerologists view it as an indicator of your basic identity. You Character number signifies the actions you take in life and how you interact with other people.
Other numbers, which will be explained later, describe what you wish would happen (the Heart's Desire or vowel number) or what you perceive to be true (the Image or consonant number). But the Character number describes what is.
Although the Character number is the most important number related to your name, it is considered to be slightly less significant than the Life Path number. Why? Because your personal name can change. Nicknames develop, people marry, and professionals, celebrities for example, change their names--and to a certain degree, their identities!
